Mark Formelle: a shared musical identity for a retail chain

How music connects stores with a brand identity. A project from the yodj team’s music-for-business practice; the collaboration began before the current platform launched.

The brief: align the sound with the brand

Mark Formelle is a clothing brand for everyday and home wear. The project needed a shared style suited to its contemporary identity and audience. The team worked from agreed musical references rather than a random collection of popular songs. Project materials list venues in Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Musical direction

Deep house, chic house, indie pop and indie dance formed the musical direction, with mostly instrumental tracks and limited vocals. The selection reflected this particular brand and its stores; it is not a universal prescription for every clothing chain.

Preparation and approval

The team prepared selections for the client to review. Listening to actual music made it possible to discuss the desired atmosphere in concrete terms. Finished music and advertising materials were delivered by link.

Seasonal updates and events

The work included seasonal repertoire updates and a separate New Year selection. Music was also selected and supplied for events, including collection shows. Everyday store music and individual events were treated as connected parts of the brand.

What the team delivered

  1. A shared musical direction consistent with the brand identity.
  2. A process for preparing, approving and regularly updating selections.
  3. Music for seasonal programmes and brand events.

This case describes the team’s music work from project materials. It does not imply that every activity used the current yodj platform. No measured increase in sales, spending or other commercial indicators is claimed.

Questions about the approach

What can another retail chain learn from this approach?

Start with a musical brief: brand identity, audience, suitable styles and music to avoid. Review a selection by listening, then agree an update process. Another brand needs its own music choices.

Can we copy the Mark Formelle playlist?

The case illustrates a working method, not an invitation to copy a client’s concept. Your store needs an independent solution and appropriate repertoire rights.
